Kasanova brings to you this month the brand new 2011 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 the newest beast coming from the Italian auto house. The Aventador is the successor to the Murcielago but it feels more like a hostile corporate takeover becoming Lamborghini’s newest corporate center piece. The new styling and mechanical underpinnings make this the fastest and lightest Lamborghini to date.

download-1The LP stands for longitudinal Posterior describing the layout of the vehicle, the 700 stands for the 700 horse power the car produces from its 60 degree 6.5 liter naturally aspirated, direct injection V-12 that features variable valve timing, four individual throttle bodies and a dry sump lubricating system. With a compression of 11.8/1 and 509 lbs/ torque this car is ferocious to say the least. The 4 stands for the new Haldex 4WD electronically controlled sytem.


The dry weight of the Aventador is 3472 lbs. A newly designed center monocoque chassis made from light weight carbon fiber weighing 505lbs (first time for Lamborghini) helped shave considerable weight from the murcielago’s monocoque chassis. It also made it 70% stiffer.  The power to weight ratio is a very impressive 4.96 lbs/hp giving it a zero to 0-62mph time of 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 217 miles per hour. With all that power we should thank the engineers for putting carbon ceramic brakes and huge brembo calipers to bring the Aventador to a stop in neck braking time. The American version will get a slightly detuned version with 691 horse power still nothing to cry about though. The Aventador is fitted with 19 in wheels in front and 20 in wheels in the rear, the front is shod with 255/35 ZR19 and the rear with massive 335/30 ZR 20’s. All that rubber undoubtedly helps the Aventador put all 700 horse power to the ground through Lamborghini’s Haldex system.


The body work on the Aventador is absolutely breath taking with its low aggressive stance and more angles than a stealth bomber it looks like it was built to do battle and that it does. Lamborghini took a new perspective when designing this car; they wanted it to be fast but also the best handling Lamborghini ever. It has F-1 style double wish-bone suspension set up giving it superb handling through the corners. Lamborghini also introduces a new ISR 7 speed single clutched gear box with super-fast changes (50 milli seconds.) it is accompanied by steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.


The interior is what you would expect lots of carbon fiber and everything is wrapped in your choice of leathers. Really good racing seats with lots of lumbar support. The layout on the dash is Far more user friendly and everything is easy to get to. You also sit in a perfectly positioned driver seat that gives you a straight line to the pedals. One really cool addition is the fully digitized instrument cluster that really makes you feel like you’re in a futuristic super car, there is also a huge center mounted TFT LCD screen. I also like the toggle switch over the ignition starter button gives you the impression you’re starting a jet fighter. When you hear the engine come to life it sends an electrifying sensation through your body that is almost indescribable. A virtual symphony awakens and you know if you put your foot down you will be pushed against the seat with raw power. Something you have to feel to believe.

Lamborghini got the name Aventador for a bull that fought in 1993 Saragossa Arena, earning the ‘Trofeo de la Pena La Medronera’.  The bull was particularly courageous in battle. I think Lamborghini has been able to channeled that bulls heart and soul in to the new Aventador. There are only going to be 750 a year built and the first 18 month  supply has already been snapped up by eager matadors and with a price tag of only $393,695 for this amazing machine, I would suggest you get your orders in sooner or later.
