Are you single and dating in San Diego? Join the club. Now more than ever the trend in the Millennium is to stay…single. With technology and dating services changing the basic way men and women relate to each other, the need to be monogamous is becoming extremely old-fashioned and hard to define. In launching of the first issue, I want to give you what's in store for you in my column, Single in the City. Each month, I will be covering different ‘hot spots and sexy singles' in San Diego. If you are looking for some dating advice, new trendy places to spice up your love life you can find those answers here each month. As a woman who loves men, I will make sure you only get the best advice from none other than hot sexy locals here in San Diego.
For the first issue this month, I have singled out Marko Dedic, Maître D' of Mille Fleurs. Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, Marko has lived in San Diego for eleven years. Mr. Dedic has mingled in and out of many fashionable places in San Diego. Here is what advice he has for other single men out there searching for romance:
Q. What is it like dating in San Diego?
A. Men are fortunate to have such a unique place, with quality night life located all over the city. I recommend, Candellas downtown, The W, and of course Mille Fleurs. It much more laid back in San Diego, which is nice for both sexes. But remember darling, to always keep a couple of cards up your sleeves just for variation. Of course, it depends on the individual. Just know you can make anything happen in San Diego.
Q. What advice do you have as an opening pick-up line for other men?
A. Please, no cliché lines…You have to be honest and spontaneous. Be in the moment and build with their lead. Don't worry about what to say. Be natural and decisive. If the woman is giving you clues, follow them. Don't be afraid to be bold. Women like to follow a man's lead on occasion.
Q. At what point to expect a woman to take the dating to the next level?
A. It depends on the attitude of the individual. Is the woman flirting back with you? Is her body language leading you toward greater intimacy? Take the clues and then take charge when the right moment occurs. You cannot hesitate with temptation. If you are given an opportunity and do not seize it, you never know if that moment will occur again.
Q. Since you are originally from Europe, Marko, what other places would you recommend for the dating or a fabulous romantic trip?
A. Barcelona and Paris, darling. You can fall in love three times a day in Barcelona and rekindle any relationship in Paris. Some trips are necessary at different moment in one's life.
Q. What is your biggest pet peeve about women these days?
A. I can't stand it when women are more into their cell phones and technology than just the simplistic nature of dating. Get back to the basics. Be in the moment with your date and stop looking at your cell phones darlings.
Thanks Marko for sharing your thoughts on dating in San Diego. He posed at Mille Fleurs restaurant at Tapas Night with one of San Diego's hottest female fashion designer's, Janice Jaraicie. For my second interview, Karian Forysth, the owner of the dating service founded in San Diego—The Right One—shared her thoughts with me on dating services, and advice for single men. Don't discount this singles. This is now one of the newest trends in dating, that's chic and cool to do. Here is Karian's thoughts on her business.
Q. Is your business busier than normal?
A. Dating services are always doing well because single people are always looking to find the right one. The interest in reality shows and Internet dating sites have stimulated my industry both with their good points and their bad points. The Right One San Diego has posted gains in sales in the last six months due to a combination of things such as a better staff, new advertising techniques, and a drive for my future customers to better themselves with new direction and new beginnings through meeting people by using my service. Perhaps during tough economic times as we are in now has further stimulated these needs.
Q. What bad dating trends to you see men making when it comes to women?
A. I believe that men are going on interviews these days and not on dates. On an interview there is a nervous factor where pure personality is stifled…. On a real first or second date there should be just some fun and spontaneity.
Q. What advice would you give to a single man in San Diego looking for love?
A. My advice is that there should be three components in every relationship. These are: 1). Emotional compatibility that relate to peoples morals and values.
2). Intellectual compatibility which means that there is a certain ease in conversation along with stimulation making the evening interesting.
3). Physical compatibility which we all know is appearance. My advice—pay attention to all three components mentioned above and know there is something that can be modified by a simple makeover for everyone searching for love.
Q. Do you think that Dating Services are more acceptable in Society than just a few years ago?
A. Sure, of course they are now. When something becomes popular everyone wants to get in on it to see if it works.
Q. Do you think that women on a whole have become more aggressive in the Millennium?
A. I don't believe that women have become more aggressive in the last nine years. I believe that in my industry it is equal... Men and women both join my service with equal goals and pay equally for this valuable service. I personally enjoy the old fashion dating practices of chivalry of the man, doors being opened and just plain gentleman like behavior on a date. I like when a woman acts, looks and dresses like a lady.
